Cluster of 11 11 PHCs (6 off-grid)
42 kWp installed
Commissioned: February 2016
This project facilitated the electrification of 11 Government run Primary Health Centers (PHCs) in Nandurbar district, MH, using Solar PV based systems. All 11 PHCs were previously either cut off from grid connectivity altogether, or had weak & unreliable access to one. As a result, storage of vaccines was a major issue. Lighting & lack of infrastructure compounded issues, as examining patients & even deliveries were often done in the dark. Hospitals with an operation centers could not use them because of unreliable electricity.
Gram Oorja designed systems to power medical equipment, including ILRs, freezers, refrigerators, and nebulizers. In hospitals with operation theaters, more complex system designs were implemented to support additional equipment like shadowless lamps, fumigation machines, suction machines, and fetal monitors. Efficient lights and fans were also provided to all eleven institutes, ensuring 24/7 electricity supply. PHC staff received training on system operation and handling of foreseen situations.
